    Weekend
Thankfully, my weekend went pretty much as I ha
d hoped. I got to sleep in Saturday, and while I did a few things that needed to be done, it was nothing productive or major. I got some paperwork done today; just enough so that I feel like I accomplished something, but not so much that I feel like I put in an entire day's work. It was just a nice balance. I see clients for most of the week except for Tuesday when someone from Freedom Scientific, (Eric Damary for those in the know), is coming to train the rehab teachers in our office in advanced features of Jaws for Windows. I've been at one of his trainings before, and he's very dynamic and easy to listen to. Wednesday night, I'm going with several people for dinner to help celebrate a friend's birthday. Anyway, not much noteworthy in my corner of the world. I'm attempting to upload a picture, and I hope ti works. My friend [info]maiamoves took it with her camera phone while we were in Philadelphia. Apparently, the way the light catches Joie's eyes, they look like they're glowing. It's just a picture of Joie, I believe. If I'm in it, and no one told me, someone's gonna die! (laugh) That's all for now.

    Techie Shtuff
I have two tech questions, and thought I'd put them out here. First, does anyone remember how much a standard CD can hold? I'm making an mp3 CD for a friend, and I want to fill it up, but not overflow it.
Second is a question I'm guessing would be more up the alley of my blind friends. I have a copy of a newspaper article that was done about Oma and me when I was sixteen. I got a friend to scan and save the document. I have it saved as both a .jpg and a .pdf. Can either of the OCR programs translate this into text, and does anyone have the time/inclination to give it a shot? Or, if you can talk me through it, I can probably download a demo of Open Book or Kurzweil. Many thanks.

    Harry Potter Husband Test
    This was fun; very cute.

Your result for The Harry Potter Husband Test...

    Mrs. Lupin

Your perfect HP man is Remus Lupin.

    You like a nice, kind
guy with a bit of a fierce streak and you don't mind if he comes damaged.  Sure, he may take some convincing since his  self-esteem's so low, but once
you win him over, you know he's yours for life.  Unless of course he has an attack of "I'm not good enough" and runs away, but luckily he's also good at
making friends who will push him back into line if necessary.

How Well-Read am I, and Can I Post This Thing?
I didn't do as well as I thought. I've not posted one of these in awhile, and never from this site; hope I don't botch it.
ETA: Cool, it worked, and it was easier than I thought.

Your result for The How Well-Read Are You? Test...

    Somewhat Bookish

    Your level of Well-Readliness is 63 %!

    Okay! You
did a decent job when it came to displaying your level of what we in the business call 'book smarts.' You are moderately well-read and educated about literature.
You may actually like reading, but you don't get a lot of time to read, or you stick to guys like Dean Koontz and John Grisham. That's fine, though.
Any desire to read or to know about the books and authors that stand out in history is a good thing.

    July Reads
Nothing especially stood out in my mind for the past month except maybe Just Ella. It's a sequel of sorts on Cinderella So here's the list of what I read in July:

There's a little guy in my head. He's pounding on the back of my right eye with pointy little drumsticks. I'm sure his twin would love to pound on the left eye, but that one's artificial, so what's the fun of that? Yet another little person is rapeling off the back of my head, again on the right, bouncing up and down, up and down, on the bungee cord that is my neck muscle. There are various annoying little personages, migrating around in my head, thumping here, tappin there, and just applying a bit of pressure where they wish. Oh, and even though you can't see him, there's a giant. He's got my head in his hands, and he's squeezing it like one of those stress balls. Is it any wonder that I'm off to bed for a bit of rest and a strong hope that tomorrow the convention in my head, plus their Hagrid-esque friend, will have moved on to greener pastures... but not to anybody on my FList. smile So, I'm gonna get my ice pack and watch the Randy Pausch special in bed before actually getting some sleep. Oh, and tomorrow, I have a dentist appointment. Spending time with my mouth open usually agravates my TMJ, and sometimes causes a headache. Plz, I've gotten it over with today, so I won't have one tomorrow? That would be lovely!

    So Tired!
Getting up on a Monday at 5:30 shouldn't be that different from getting up at 6:00, but it was. The course, both the learning and the teaching, went really well. I learned a few things about Word I didn't know, or had forgotten. We went for pizza at lunchtime, and stopped at a gift/candy store on the way back. I got some red shoestring licorice. It's not something I crave, but it brings back memories. So tired though. The week should be easy street from here... I hope.

Three Pages??? You've got to be KIDDING!
I spent the better part of the weekend, as well as some time during the week getting ready for my part in Monday's training. I'm talking about 3 things: New features in IE 7 that are of particular use to Jaws users; specifically tabs and feeds, the various SAMobile products and other free screen readers, and a condensed version of the IE course we took this past winter; my job is to detail the relevant points. So, I wrote up the info on IE7, and the info on SAMobile. We already have scads of written info from our IE course, so I decided not to reinvent the wheel, that people can highlight their own printouts with what they feel is important. I'm also taking my thumb drive with several Freeware and Shareware programs on it. Since not everyone will have her computer, I also wrote up a list of what's in the programs folder, and a basic summary of what each one does. When it was all said and done, I have a whopping three pages for each person. Based on the amount of time I took checking and rechecking my facts, downloading and organizing files, and distilling information so they'd get the relevant points, I feel like I should be giving them each a small book! Three pages.. unbelievable. I have enough material in those few pages, plus demonstrations, to go on for about four hours, and I'll have two at the most. My brain hurts!
And while I'm writing, I'll add some unrelated stuff onto this entry that I didn't get posted earlier. Randy Pausch died, and I'm so sad for his family. I'm not sad for him because I think he was ok with it, but he's got little kids, and that's got to be so hard for them and for his wife. If you've been living on a deserted island and you don't know who is, I'd highly recommend looking him up. I'm the last one to keep up with current/popular culture, so if you don't know something about current culture that I do, I have to conclude you've been out of touch or something. Anyway, he's well worth the time to look him up!
I had an excellent dinner the other night, and couldn't resist sharing. Caesar salad, chicken marsala, polenta, and green beans. It was amazing!
And there was something else I'll remember after I'm in bed. Oh, I remember. Sister got a text message on her cell phone this morning, and we were quite a pair. I've done email, but never texting, and she can see the screen. So, between the both of us, we managed to read the message and reply to it. The whole thing was kind of like The Two Stooges go high tech, but it was really funny, and we were very proud of ourselves.
ETA: my internet went down, and I couldn't post. Had to rewrite part of it after restoring from saved draft. So, off to post before cyberspace eats it again!

    Random Stuff
Just a few random things before I'm off to bed: I was sorry to hear of the death of Estelle Getty today; sad! I was glad I went to the Jaws training yesterday; it was a nice networking opportunity. Lots of the info was familiar, but it was also a chance to spend time with the other rehab teachers. The one giving the course gave us a bunch of materials she had developed over the years for use in teaching Jaws. Yay! Free lessons I don't have to write/prepare! My upper back is very sore and stiff for some reason, so I'm making good use of my back massager thing; very glad I got it. Also, I found out that a friend was very seriously elecrocuted due to the negligence of the person installing cable internet in her home. It's a long story, but it's a miracle she's alive. She's in a lot of physical pain, and this has made a negative, longterm impact on her life. Please remember B. in your thoughts and prayers!Ok, off to bed.

    I'm Back
I'm back, and I'm exhausted. For the most part, I had a wonderful time. I emailed 3 posts to LJ, and none of them seems to have showed up. I only have a copy of one of the posts. So, I'll recreate, or try to recreate, what I wrote, and finish writing about the trip over the weekend. I have a week of FList posts to read too, so I should be kept busy. (smile) I'm off to bed for now.

    Ready... Set... Go!
I think I'm about ready for my trip. The sheets are changed, the vaccuum run, the hard drive defragged... Well, I'm not that bad, but you get the idea. Tomorrow morning early, I leave for a happy snappy day at the office. Then, I leave for Harrisburg, the destination from which it seems all trips commence. (smile) My sister and nieces are going out to dinner. My bil is away on business. I'm up bright and early for an endocrinologist appointment the next morning. After that, I'm going to visit Oma. It will be on her birthday, and I love that it worked out that way. I'll probably catch some lunch after that. I'm planning to fast that morning in case they need to take the obligatory gallon of blood. I'm not an "easy stick" so I'd rather get it over with than dread it.. So, lunch, maybe at this Middle Eastern place if I get my way. (smile) Then, it's off to Philly to spend a couple days with [info]maiamoves. I'll get back Friday night, and am sure I will have some tales, or is that tails, to tell. I may have two twitter postings coming through a day until I can fix it. One problem gets solved, another arises. Oh well, at least they're behind a cut, right? (smile) Welcome back to all those who've returned from conventions, and to those who are starting vacations this week, I hope you'll have as great a time as I will. I think I can now go and delete my long to-do list, at least the one for today. The one with the last-minute stuff to pack in the morning and the things that absolutely must get done at the office... now that's a different story. Do I need all these lists? Maybe, maybe not. They're good for my sanity; a nice way to make sure I'm remembering everything. I think I'm going to take my neurotic self off to play a computer game or something. Bye for now!

Tech Tantrums, Twitter Trouble, and Anything Else I can Think of

Finally, I watched Greatest American Dog last night. Wish I had a dog-savvy sighted person to describe it. A non-dog sighted person doesn't help bunches. Anyway, some of it was a bit over the top, like the woman and the dog, each with two names, or the guy who had a Bar Mitzvah (sp?) for his dog. Some of the people are a little over the top and hard to take, but I'll probably keep watching. Hopefully, the show will get useful information into the minds of the general dog owning population. For example, one of the judges said a dog was displaying signs of stress; lip licking and cowering. This is stuff, I think, that most dog owners don't know. I need to research it online, because I'm curious to know what breeds are shown. The ones I know of are a Maltese, Giant Schnauzer, a Bichon, and two Border Collies. Oh well, enough rambles for now. I'm off to create another cd/coaster... or something. Happy Friday, everybody!
ETA: I made another coaster; will do the copying on the laptop tomorrow. It will take longer, but at least it will work. Just saw an ad, and the rerun of the first episode of Greatest American Dog is on tomorrow night at 8:00 Eastern. I remembered the dog with two names. The owner was Beth Joy, and the dog was Bella Starlet. Too over the top for my tastes, but I like just plain Bella as a name. Waiting for my Tweets to show up on LJ, if they do. I am now tired, have poached brain, and don't really care. I'm sure I will tomorrow, but not tonight. Off to bed!
